About Us
Established in 2019
AAC Canada Inc. is an affiliate of Edmonton based (1992 Calgary incorporated) ECG Empire Capital Group Inc. In 2019 ECG was appointed “Coordinating Entity” for an 1,100 home development in Alberta, with the mandate to research and introduce the world-wide established AAC home building technology, in order to counter the effects of climate change. In consequence, the ECG team engaged in a three (3) year research program to determine the most appropriate home building technology and the best available AAC product for both conventional and indigenous Canadian homes.
We examined comparative pricing and freight costs for product shipped from Europe vs. the US and Mexico. Key criteria were: availability and lead times, a fire proof product , water & mould resistance, strength, energy savings, minimal CO2 footprint on the environment, toxicity, light weight, ease and speed of installation following the Lego system, (AAC contains 80% air) and a home longevity of over 150 years. This technol-ogy has been proven in most countries worldwide (except in Canada) and meets or exceeds US/Canadian LEED and ASTM certification requirements. There exist over 1,000AAC manufacturing plants throughout Europe, the Middle East, Siberia, Australia, India and China. In 2025 the US will be adding an AAC panel plant in Texas to the existing two AAC plants in the Eastern US.
Negotiations with AAC/GlC/ICF Manufacturers
In addition to reviewing the appropriate literature and test results, the ECG team contacted several existing manufacturers of AAC, of Cellular Light Concrete (GLC) and of Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) in Europe, the USA, Mexico and Canada. We determined that the best system designers and manufacturers were in Europe and contacted Xella, the largest European designer/ manufacturer in Germany. Xella designs the systems that are then manufactured in over 40 countries by its subsidiaries Hebel and Ytong or by licensed manufacturers. We negotiated with both firms in Holland, Germany, the US and Mexico. Competitive quotes for several indigenous homes in Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC suggested that freight costs from Europe via Montreal and from the US East coast made the AAC product expensive and slow to arrive in Western Canada. Therefore – pending the eventual construction of a Western Canadian manfacturing facility in Edmonton or BC – AAC components could be imported from Mexico via the US.
Note: In view of the planned US political/economic changes announced for 2025 – including 25% import tariffs from Mexico and Canada – AAC Canada Inc. has decided to change suppliers i.e. from Mexico to Germany.
The establishing of an AAC college training program in Alberta by Rocksolid Building Products, combined with its home construction expertise, and the construction experience and Alberta/BC contacts of a joint venture partner, have considerably broadened AAC Canada Inc.’s base and range of services.
Note: An AAC manufacturing plant to be built in Edmonton or in the interior of BC would cost ca. US $ 40.0 million of which ca. US $ 18.0 million would be the cost of equipment, to be largely financed by the German Export Finance authority.
Mission
We are on a mission to revolutionize home building in Canada by offering a greener, more durable, and cost-effective solution. We utilize a time-tested technology that has been employed with great success in numerous other countries for over a century. Our goal is to provide homeowners with a sustainable and resilient living space that will stand the test of time, while also being mindful of their budget and schedule.
